For some reason, my windows volume mixer resets some of my sound levels either when i restart my computer or restart certain applications. Generally i have my sound level around 40 and individual program volumes at 2-5, so when a program's sound levelis reset at 40+ it is obnoxiously loud.Is there a reason behind why it does this or a way I can prevent it, or set a default volume level for new programs?Im using Windows 7 Pro x64 and have been having this problem the whole time Ive been using windows 7. I suggest to login with, remove some third party programs, and perform a whole disk scan to check if any virus or spywares in your PC.Furthermore, what type of your PC?
Desktop or laptop? If you are using laptop, please check if you shortcut keyboard of volume on keyboard is corrupted.

Thanks for the reply.I am almost positive it is not a software conflict and do not have any viruses and fairly sure I don't have any spyware. I my computer is a desktop. My BIOS is up to date and I have not had any problems with the disk.The problem only occurs with specific progams (skype and portal 2 the ones that I've recently had trouble with).

After opening one of these 'problem programs', adjusting their volume levels and then closingthem, their volume levels reset to the maximum current volume level (IE: I have my 'Device' volume set to 40 and all programs set to 4-5, it will start with a volume level of 40).To me, it seems like its not properly storing the volume levels for those programs once the program is terminated.In addition, all newly installed programs will start at maximum volume, which I then have to manually turn them down in the volume mixer back down to a suitable level.
